Social Studies - Students have been busy learning about the causes of the American Revolution. From the French and Indian War to the Boston Massacre, they have learned that things were not going smoothly in the American Colonies. A revolution may happen soon! :) The chapter 10 test will likely be on Monday, May 6, 2019.
Writing - Students have started to put together "flash drafts" on the topic of Westward Expansion. They are writing long about what they know and then going back and researching where they still have questions. There is so much to know about this important time in history and students are loving everything they are learning!
Reading- Our time spent reading is supporting our writing. We are reading about Westward Expansion and learning how to quickly find the information we are looking for within nonfiction texts to support the research we are doing for our writing. Lots of great hard work being done throughout the day!
Science- We officially started our new science unit this week: Matter and Energy in an Ecosystem! Students watched a video where birds seemed to ride on hippos' backs. They drew models and asked questions about the phenomena. We shared our models as a class to help push our thinking even further. On Wednesday, science groups worked together to build their ecosystems. We will be adding to them in the very near future to see how variables can affect the environments. Everyday, we water our beans and marigolds that have already sprouted! We'll be taking a closer look at them in a future lesson.
Math- We finished unit 8 this week with our unit test! Look out for them at the beginning of next week. Everything we learned about unit conversions and volume was very helpful during our testing. Now, we are jumping back to start unit 6. It's all about operations and story problems! Students have seen some story problems over the last couple of units, but this takes it to a new level!
