February 20 - 22

Even though it was a short week, we were very busy in fifth grade!!

Social Studies
Students spent class time working to finish up their Early English Settlements projects.  They were turned in today and students will get to show them off during our Showcase event when we return from Spring Break.    They look fantastic and students did a great job of explaining what is important about each of these early settlements.  Next week, we will begin our studies of the 13 Colonies.   Does it get any more fun than this?  I am so excited!

Reading
Students continue to read their fantasy books and think about strategies to help them understand middle-level novels even better.  Reading is Thinking!

Writing
Students finished up drafting a literary essay on the Paynee FC football club video. We are preparing to write our next literary essay on a text we've read in class!

Math
We continued to divide with decimals and whole number this week!

Science
This week we studied ocean currents a bit more! We read a great book that taught us all about erosion. Then, we saw some video clips that helped explain how ocean currents move! Another awesome part of this week was that Mrs. Palma's class had multiple 5th grade science teachers in the Troy School District observe them in a future science lesson. These teachers are adopting the new science curriculum early this year, just like us! All of the teachers were so impressed with models that they drew and their science talk!
